After a whirlwind week last week, capped off by a cross-country road trip to deliver my Golden Retriever, Gordo to his new home, i was greeted with a hurricane warning. Ahhh, Florida.

Nicole didn’t seem too angry but she was pointed right at us. After last month’s near miss with Hurricane Ian, we still took no chances, secured our house and helped where we could with family and friends and picked up a big bottle of Rum… just in case. Turns out, we did it right.

Hurricane Nicole

That eye shot is right over our house. Nailed it. We were both prepared and lucky. The house was recently remodeled and built like a bunker. Storm windows, roof, and doors held up fine. I slept through her midnight arrival. We even had power when I woke up. Not so much with internet but that was restored later in the morning. We’ve since cleaned the yard, cleared the hot tub, and started cleaning the pool, but not before a beach walk to see what was left.

Some of our neighbors lost trees, fences, signs, kayaks, etc. but nothing too major in our little neighborhood. One of our favorite restaurants was leveled a little north of us though, so some were definitely not so lucky as us.

We’ll be cleaning through the weekend and helping where we can. We hope all our Space Coast neighbors are doing well and please let me know if you need anything. Now we’re just hoping this doesn’t further delay Artemus. 😬

First, a thank you to everyone for the well wishes, texts, calls, & oh so memorable photos from years past. It’s always humbling to hear from the tribe of which you’ve been blessed to become a part via firehose on a single day. The big birthday weekend was a blast with a quick trip to Palm Beach for dinner, a comedy show, & a day on the boat with old friends and new. We wrapped it up with dinner at my dad’s place for the best swordfish I’ve ever eaten. Truly a great weekend.

As always, a birthday lends itself to reflection on choices made, efforts put in, and what can be done moving forward. All I can say is that this year has been a growth year. People have changed, places have changed. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve fallen off the rails a couple of times but attention, focus, and love are winning out.

I’ve spent 2022 working toward a few big hairy goals:

  • An average of at least 1 hour in the gym per day with targeted goals and timelines.
  • Optimal clean food & drink to feed this machine I work so hard.
  • Significant reduction in beverage… my poison of choice, to keep my mind focused and my ambition heightened.
  • Accept nothing less than what I’m worth for the work that I put into a project or person.

I’ve got the best life coach a person could wish for. Carol my Love, you mean the world to me and I’m working hard to earn the love you’ve shown and taught me. You were right so many years ago. Love Wins! You want to be successful in business? Do what you love. You want to live a peaceful life, surround yourself with those who you love and want the best for you. You want true joy? Love yourself and do the things that prove that you do, every day.

At home we’ve picked up biohacking and made it a priority. A combination of clean living, organic foods, research, hard work, and data points (my favorite) are helping us to life a happy, motivated life together. We’re active and picking up new sports and hobbies because it feels good.

I’m automating the minutia of life and focusing on the big rocks to keep me focused. All these years in consulting and I’m finally heeding my own advise. My professional projects are fun and rewarding and I don’t drown myself in the tedium.

I’m growing my consistency in the things that make me a better human. Workouts are becoming more focused, even when I’m dragging or lacking motivation. I’m picking up the PHONE for a change and learning to have real conversations. It’s a lost art that is truly rewarding. I’m showing gratitude for every one and every thing I’m blessed with in this amazing little life.

Finally, I’m opening my self up to the amazing that is yet to come. I know this life is a great one and I’m looking forward to all it will become for all of us together. If you see me say hello! If I’m in the gym, wave or yell. I’m probably zoned out with the music blasting in my AirPods. If you’re interested in something I post, get in touch! I’ll connect you with whomever I can.

I can’t thank my love, Carol, my business partners, and my long time friends enough for the year I’ve had and I look forward to more awesome through the coming year. Let’s make this our best one yet!

Blockchain is one emerging technology that is sure to make headlines in the next few years. This technology uses blocks to store information and prevents a single point of failure. As a result, it is efficient and secure and can streamline processes. While not fully implemented, it is a promising technology for a variety of industries and applications.

While many industries can be impacted by blockchain technology, its implications are perhaps greatest in data. In China, data is a critical resource, with President Xi Jinping stating in 2013 that “big data is a free resource.” Blockchain technology provides a more efficient way to collect, store, and distribute data. It can reduce the need for central arbitration and improve overall network efficiencies. For example, new cars could communicate directly with each other, avoiding accidents and decreasing traffic congestion.

Blockchain technology will revolutionize the way information is shared. It will make the internet more transparent and decentralized. Blockchain will enable direct and transparent relationships between people, removing the need for third-party intermediaries. It will forever change the way we interact with the internet. Founder Jayson Tan has created Torum, a social media platform that connects cryptocurrency users. The company has received strategic funding from Huobi Ventures and KuCoin Labs, the investment arm of KuCoin.

Emerging technologies offer innovative solutions to problems that previously seemed unsolvable. The blockchain technology in the digital currency Bitcoin is a prime example. It provides a public ledger of all transactions and is the first digital currency to solve the problem of double-spending. A cryptocurrency is nothing without a blockchain can be used in many ways.

Blockchain will also help with the problem of privacy. It can protect the personal data of its users and prevent it from being accessed by third parties. Its use in social media will solve many of the inherent problems of social media. These problems include privacy, relevance, and data control. Blockchain will help to overcome these issues and help social media become a more useful and safe environment for users.

Blockchain is one of the most important emerging technologies. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we communicate, interact, and collaborate. It is a promising technology for the future and should be given the same serious attention as other emerging technologies. In addition to blockchain, there is another emerging technology called metaverse. This is the next evolution of the internet and will fundamentally change the way we communicate. It will allow us to access a persistent digital environment and make it interoperable with the physical world.

Generative AI is another emerging technology. This technology uses algorithms to learn the representation of artifacts from data and then use this representation to create new artifacts while preserving the likeness of the original data. While this technology is still in its early stages, it has already seen success in several industries. Some industries may be wary of generative AI due to privacy and safety issues.

We recently wrapped up our latest adventure, & my birthday, in France. It was a pretty far kick from our typical islands, boats, & tiki bars but now that we own a home in paradise, the call of historical opulence that invariably altered a lot of my favorite small rocks in the Caribbean had to be answered. Wheels up, y’all.

The plan sounded a little complicated but made perfect sense to us. Great hotels, local fare, see the whole region, and do it on points to keep the spend to a minimum. The plot was Home to Paris to Épernay to Versailles to Paris to Home and with a little planning it actually went off without too many hitches, thanks to an abundance of planning ahead of time.

The biggest tip I can give you? Get your QR code taken care of ahead of time.

France, like a lot of the rest of the world, is tracking vaccinations & testing pretty tightly. You can provide qualified vax proof to the French government ahead of time and get your QR before you fly. They’ll ask for it in French customs and flag you right through, after a quick scan. You’ll also need it for basically any indoor activity you’ve got planned. If you’re not vaxed, you can get a test at a local pharmacy when you get there and they’ll issue you a QR for about €40. You’ll just have to do it every few days. I’m not going to start a war of words here, but you get the easier/cheaper route here, I’m sure. Since we were fully vaccinated, the country was ours to explore.

We did the Paris Opera House district for a couple of days, moved on to wine country, then to Versailles for my birthday, and then back to the city for a night with Eiffel Tour views, and then back to the Vendôme area until our flight back, wandering the amazing hotels, museums, churches, & shopping during the last days of Paris Fashion Week. Funny happening… we shared a hotel with Cardy B, so we got the full paparazzi treatment every time we arrived to or left the hotel. Always fun.

Musée d’Orsay

Throughout the trip, I pulled my usual geekery and involved my favorite tech gadgets throughout. My Lucyd Lytes provided real time walking directions everywhere with connection to Siri to get us everywhere we wanted to go without being those tourists, walking these historic streets heads-down in a phone. Another great way to infuse tech into your daily wanderings. Check them out here and tell them I sent you.

Oh… and one last tip. Get the Abbot home PCR tests for your trip home. Saves a ton of time and you can do them from your hotel the night before your return flight.

So it’s been a pandemic since I posted last and a lot has gone down. No, we didn’t stop exploring entirely. It turns out, most of the world is cleaner than our fine Untied States, but that’s another conversation all together. Travel did slow with boarder closings and such, and focus definitely shifted through these trying months to keeping the new restaurant afloat, working with clients to keep their wheels spinning, and adjusting overall focus to new projects revolving around remote work, emerging tech, & new locations.

…oh, and we bought a beach house to start our AirBnB empire. Stay tuned for details there & cheers from Melbourne Beach!

Admittedly, it’s been a minute since I’ve visited this page. I guess it’s time to explain why. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my latest project; Wellington’s and The Reserve.

Wellington’s and The Reserve are the brain child of four local entrepreneurs who were looking for a better lounge, cigar & whiskey bar, and restaurant in the area. The other partners and I have pulled inspiration from favorite venues and locales worldwide and are about to offer Northwest Arkansas a taste of something entirely different. Premium whiskeys, cigars, and top notch food for an entirely greaseless kitchen.

Construction and inspections are almost completed and we’ll be announcing our opening date very soon. Visit the website, join the mailing list, and be among the first to know of our grand opening.

Cheers!

We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so we’ll that death will tremble to take us.

Why mess with tradition? The title stays!

I’ve set up this platform as my own little soap box to discuss what I’m working on, what I’ve learned, & why I do the things I do. The road blocks I stumble upon and the subtle nuances of navigating this varied business world will hopefully provide some learning for anyone searching similar interests.
